KEN BROOKE’S ROUTINE FOR
“THE ENDLESS CHAIN”
This is the old fairground game of pitching the Garter, but brought up to date by Ken Brooke. Some novelty has been added to the original game to improve the effect. A length of chain had been joined to form a loop, and the performer explains that the object of the game is to throw the loop and turn it into a figure eight, by swinging it so that the fingers are caught in the two loops. It is stated that the game comes from the fairground and was usually played in this manner. The spectator is now asked to try it, and he will find it very difficult to do. He is then asked to try again, but the performer holds the chain with one finger. This time the spectator will find it quite easy to form the figure eight.
This is a most entertaining and also instructive routine, and is highly recommended by Ken Brooke. The effect is very strong, and can be performed in a variety of ways to strengthen the mystery.
