TAPE & BOOK MENTAL EFFECT

EFFECT:
Performer says to spectator "In this leather case, I have a rolled up tape measure with different numbers on each side. While my back is turned, please unroll the tape to any number of your free choice and then ADD mentally to that number the number that appears directly on the opposite side. Then roll up the tape and place it back again in the leather case." After that is done, performer continues "Now will you please concentrate on the TOTAL number while I write a prediction on a slip of paper and place it into this envelope, which you will please hold in one of your pockets until I ask for it." After this is done, performer says "I have here a small book. Turn to the same page as your total number. Count down four lines from the top of the page. Now look at the FOURTH word on that line and please spell it. Thank you. Now will you open the envelope and take out the slip of paper with my prediction."
 
Of course, the word predicted is the same as the word spelled by the spectator. Doesn't this seem like telepathy?
 
CONDITION NOTES:  While the item is new, it does have some age discoloration and minor wear to the packages and instructions.
