A rope is freely shown and hangs limp like any ordinary rope. With a simple motion through the hands, the rope suddenly becomes stiff, allowing it to be held straight out horizontally like a solid rod. Just as quickly, it can be returned to its normal flexible state.
 
The effect can be played for comedy or mystery, such as presenting the rope as “alive,” causing it to go rigid and lifeless, then restoring it back to normal. A highly visual and versatile routine that can be adapted to fit a wide range of presentations.
