You have a tube with a cord running through each end, with large, colorful pom poms attached. The cords can be pulled back and forth to show they aren’t connected, but things quickly get confusing. When one side is pulled, it suddenly becomes much longer while the opposite side shortens.
 
From there, no matter which end you pull, that side becomes the long cord, making it look like there are multiple cords at play. The sequence can be repeated in a variety of ways, building up more and more confusion for the audience.
 
For the finale, both cords are suddenly shown long at the same time. The tube is then pulled apart to prove there’s no connection between them, which makes the whole thing feel impossible. Put it back together and you can immediately continue the effect, ending clean with something that’s easy to perform and always gets a strong reaction.
