Near the end of the magician’s performance, he reaches into his pocket and tells the audience, “I have time for one more trick before I go.” He takes out three sponge pieces in the shape of the word “GO.” Placing them on the table, he asks a spectator to pick any word they like. When the spectator chooses one, the performer comments, “Good choice,” and hands her the sponge.

The magician picks up another “GO” and asks the spectator to say “Go.” Pointing to his watch he says, “Watch… it’s GONE!” The sponge vanishes from his hand. The spectator opens her hand and now finds two sponges.

The magician takes the two “GO’s” back and places them again in the spectator’s hand. The final “GO” is placed into the magician’s own hand. He says, “It’s time to go… not me, the sponge. Say ‘Go!’ Did you see it? It’s gone!” When he opens his hand the sponge has vanished, and when the spectator opens her hand she now finds all three GO’s.

Finally the magician gathers all three sponges and hands them to another spectator, explaining that they will now disappear. Although the spectator says she can still feel them, when she opens her hand the three sponge “GO’s” have vanished and in their place appears the word “GONE.”

A Tribute to Albert Goshman

This routine and set of sponge props has been put together by RonJo’s Magic as a tribute to the great performer and father of sponge ball magic, Albert Goshman.

Albert often used the words “GO, GO, and GONE” in his famous Salt & Pepper Shaker routine. RonJo, being an admirer of Albert’s style of magic, thought it would be wonderful to put some of Albert’s favorite words into sponge form.

Now you can keep Albert’s words alive and have fun with them for a lifetime!
