A brightly coloured cube with a string passing through it is shown by the magician.
 
With one end of the string in each hand, he tilts it to a vertical position. The cube of course starts to fall towards the bottom - but the magician causes it to start and stop its downward movement at his command.
 
A spectator is now invited to try it, but to his dismay the cube justs drops straight down the string.
