A group of mysterious Aztec relics are presented to the audience. A small box, and a larger cylindrical container. You, the performer, first lift the cylindrical cover revealing underneath an ornate Aztec monolith.
The story is told that “Long ago the ancient Aztecs thought that monoliths such as these could see their futures and know their fate. If we examine the monolith more carefully we can see that it spins freely around on its base and that each side of the monolith is a different color and depicts a different deity each representing one of the 4 seasons of the year. Gold for summer, turning to the browning of copper in the fall, Silver for the heart of winter, leading to the green of spring.” After showing all the sides of the monolith you give it a spin and as it continues to spin you slowly place the cylindrical cover over the monolith hiding it from view. You can then explain how it’s now impossible for us to know where the monolith might stop.
You now open the small box and pour out onto the table 4 ancient coins. Each coin is again a different color representing the seasons, Gold, Copper, Silver, Green. You ask the spectator to freely choose any coin they wish, a coin that maybe represents their favorite season, the choice is 100% their own free choice. After the spectator picks their coin they are asked to hold the coin tight in their hand and to hold an image of the season they picked in their head.
Bringing attention back to the monolith that is still hidden from sight you now slowly lift the cylindrical cover to reveal the monolith had stopped spinning with the selected season pointed directly at the spectator. The monolith can be spun again, covered back over and another coin freely chosen from the box, only to again reveal the monolith stopped spinning on the chosen season/color!

Anthony Yap is an Australian artist with a passion for visual oddities, magical history and the esoteric arts. Influenced by a wide range of genres from mystical ancient cultures to Steampunk & Retrofuturism, Anthony’s creations are highly visual, and usually a lot more than what they seems at first glance.
Some artists naturally take to drawing, others modelling clay, for Anthony the virtual world of 3D Sculpting has been his medium of choice for over 2 decades and remained mostly contained to the virtual world until the rise of 3D Printing and additive manufacturing. Here Anthony saw an opportunity to rapidly take concepts and almost like magic to see those creations manifest over night into reality. While a big step in the right direction simply using 3D printing or CNC wasn’t enough, the result still felt unfinished and looked like a toy. Instead, a process and style was developed that uses 3D Printing & CNC as a base to start from with all of the individual pieces then undergoing a long process of hand work, assembly, hand painting & lacquer finishing to bring further quality, depth and feel to the magical creation. Through this process of mixing modern technology and classic hand crafting a unique characteristic is given to each of the items sometimes making the final piece feel as if it was just dug from an ancient tomb or discovered in the archives of some long lost traveling showman.
Due to the hand crafted nature of each of the pieces Anthony and his team can only produce a limited number of items each year with majority of the pieces going to collectors and enthusiasts from around the world.
