ABBOTT’S MINIATURE POCKET ILLUSION
By Eddie Joseph of Calcutta, India
Abbott’s, Colon, Mich.
EFFECT: A pocket match box is emptied of matches (any match box may be used). A solid steel plate of a size to fit into the match box drawer is given for examination, then spectator is asked to place the plate inside the drawer. The match box is closed with the steel plate inside.
Holding the match box in his hand, performer takes helper to pass a large needle through the center of the match box. Performer explains that the needle is made of a special metal which is 100 per cent harder than the steel plate. A length of ribbon hangs from the needle.
Helper pushes the needle through match box, followed by the ribbon. Magician explains that the weak always submits to the strong; the needle being harder than steel passes right through the latter. The needle is removed and the ribbon may be pulled out from the box. Magician opens drawer slightly to show that steel plate is still in the box. Helper is then instructed to pull the ribbon out of the box. Performer pulls out drawer and exhibits steel plate, unharmed, and exactly in the same condition as when examined.
